Most of us don’t actually want a stress-free life, because we know that doesn’t exist. We just want to believe we CAN HANDLE what life throws at us.
As a Gen Xer who has lived with anxiety, I know what it means to feel overwhelmed by pressure while still pushing forward. I’ve sat on both sides — the one struggling to stay grounded, and the one supporting others in learning how to do it themselves.
And here’s what I’ve learned:
Feeling capable doesn’t come from eliminating stress — it comes from building trust in yourself.
A few practices that have helped me (and the people I support) strengthen that inner “I can handle this” muscle:
🔹 Pause before reacting.
A 3-second breath can be the difference between spiraling and responding with clarity.
🔹 Name what’s happening.
“I’m feeling overwhelmed right now.”
Awareness creates choice.
🔹 Choose the next small step.
Not the full solution — just the next doable action.
🔹 Remember your resilience.
You’ve made it through every hard day of your life so far. You didn’t do that by accident.
You are more capable than your anxious mind often allows you to believe.
Confidence isn’t created in calm moments — it’s built in the messy, stressful ones where you show up anyway.
Find your calm in this anxious life.
